Zaheer Khan take 5/75 to bring India close to Memorable win – India Vs England Second Test TrentBridge

Zaheer khan outstanding performance with the ball brings India close to victory in the second test at Nottingham, Trentbridge. He has his best bowling spell today in this series picking up 5/75 in the England
second inning.

Captain Michael Vaughan's spirited century was overshadowed by Zaheer's demolition job as England faltered after being in control to concede the advantage back to the Indians, leaving them with 73 runs to win the second Test.

At the close of day IV Indian already knocked 10 run out of 73 and they only need 63 more runs to reach the memorable victory with the all 10 wickets in hand.

Earlier England resumed from 43/0 with both the not out batsman Andrew Strauss and A. Cook trying to play cautiously and patiently. Zaheer Khan has other idea when he picked up Aliastar Cook lbw in his second over of the day, leaving England at 49/1.

The loss of Cook brought England skipper Michael Vaughan to the crease and together with Andrew Strauss he took his team to 129/1 at the lunch break.

However Soon after Lunch Indian Pace bowling leader Zaheer Khan struck again and tis time he got the wicket of Andrew Strauss when he was on 55 and England at 130/2. Kevin Pietersen arrival to the crease is most heartedly welcomed by beamer and bouncers from S.Sreesanth and R.P Singh. After putting 45 for the third wicket he was out lbw by the bowl of the day bowled by R.P Singh. He was not offering the shot on the bowl which comes back sharply and looks to hit middle and off, Simon taufel has no hesitation in giving that out.

Paul Collingwood joined Vaughan in the middle following Pietersen's dismissal, as the duo managed to guide England to tea, safe at 221 for three.

Soon after Tea Michael Vaughan reach his magnificent played century when he hit Kumble for four in the cover region boundary. England looking to getting back into this match with solidity of Paul Collingwood and attacking Cricket of Michael Vaughan but Zaheer Khan shattered the England hopes when he bowled England Captain Michael Vaughan around his legs when he was on 124 and remain England at 287/4.

Ian bell also don’t have an Idea of the ball comes back from outside off stump and found plumb lbw in the saem over of Zaheer and 3 balls earlier the score which looks at 287/3 was suddenly change to 287/5. Now it’s up to Paul Collingwood and Matt Prior but again R.P Sing get the ball to nip back in and uprooted the middle stump of Prior to leave England at 304/6.

Zaheer was back in the wicket taking act soon as he got rid of Collingwood, who fell for a valiant 63 from 133 balls.

England's end neared as Anil Kumble snared the wickets of Matthew Prior and Monty Panesar, as being bowled out would give India the opportunity to wrap up the game on Day V.

Needing just 73 runs to win this test match and take an unbeaten lead of 1-0 in the series Indian opener started well. At the close of 4th day play Indians were 10/0 and they need just 63 more runs to register a memorable win at TrentBridge.

Sachin Tendulkar Completed 11000 Runs in Test Cricket

On 28th July 2007 Sachin Tendulkar became only third player in the history of test cricket to complete 11000 Test runs. Now only two players are ahead of Sachin tendulkar Allan Border (11174 runs) & Brain Lara (11953 runs).

Tendulkar has reached the milestone in 223 innings, which is 36 fewer than the number Border needed, but ten more than Lara's 213.

However, Tendulkar's average of 55.43 is more than Border's (51.00) and Lara's (54.04) immediately after the innings in which they reached the landmark. (If Tendulkar gets out without adding to his 57, his average will be 55.16.).

Sachin Tendulkar achieve this milestone during second test match against England at Nottingham when he drove Monty Paneaser bowl to cover for four.

India take firm control against England - India Vs England Second Test Nottingham Day III

At the end of day 3 India lead by 240 against England in second test at Trenbridge. Indian Batsman dominated the third day till they bowled out for 481. Six of the Indian batsman scored half century. In spite of some harsh decision by Simon Taufell Indian still ahead by 240 runs.

Earlier England Captain Michael Vaughan without any delay taken the new ball in the second over of the day hoping to get the Indian wickets quickly but Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly played brilliantly to deny England hopes. Saurav Ganguly look in awesome form and cross the fifty run marks before the lunch. At the other end Sachin had some problem against Ryan Sidebottom who bowls brilliantly without any luck.

The first session turned out to be very fruitful for Indians as the overnight pair - Tendulkar and Ganguly managed to play the new ball well and battle out the morning conditions to come out with flying colours. At lunch Sachin and Saurav was not out on 87 and 56 respectively.

England came out to bowl after lunch with new plan and given the first over to Paul Collingwood who is smashed over point by Sachin Tendulkar for four but one ball later the Master batsman get out to the bowl who pitched outside off stump and going outside off. But England fielders kept appealing until Simon Taufell raise his finger. Sachin Tendulkar after putting 96 for the fourth wicket with Saurav Ganguly got out on 91.

V.V.S Laxman came out to bat after dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar and played positively with Saurav Ganguly to carry the Indian Scores over 400 run mark. Saurav ganguly (79) who was looking to get his second hundred at this ground given out by another harsh decision by Saimon Taufell and he was very frustrated with the decision. Action replay clearly suggested that he hasn’t touched the ball while playing the leg glance.

Lord’s hero M.S. Dhoni didn’t last longer and out on the bowling of Ryne Sidebottom caught by Matt Prior on 5 run.

Now it’s up to Indian tail to hang out with Laxman and Anil Kumble did not disappoint either with his brilliant 30 runs and 50 runs partnership with Laxman take over Indian scores to 450. Laxman got out on 54 while tried to play spanking square cut.

Finally Indian bowled out for 481 with the lead of 283 in the first inning.

England batsman came out to bat in their second inning with 16 overs of play remaining on the day. But without loosing any wicket they managed to score 43/0 at the close of third day play.

Now on fourth day Indian bowlers need discipline and patience. On the other hand England batsman need to apply themselves and put pride on their wickets to cross the mountains ahead.

England down the barrel at 169/7 – India Vs England Second Test Nottingham Day I

Earlier due to wet outfield second Cricket Test match between India and England Started late. Indian Captain Rahul Dravid won the toss and Elected to bowl first and his decision was well supported by Indian bowlers specially Zaheer Khan who took 3/57 at end of Day I.

From the word go pitch was offering too much favor for the simmer with the movement in the air as well as from the pitch. Indian bowler was right on the spot from the start and India drawn the first blood Andrew Strauss in the third over of the inning when Zaheer Khan bowls got an edge to first slip and Sachin tendulkar has no difficulty in catching that one up.

India sent back Andrew Strauss (4), skipper Michael Vaughan (9) and Kevin Pietersen (13) before the total had reached 50.

At the end of Day I England were 169/7 with Chris Tremllet on 16 after dropping him on 4 by Sachin at first slip on the bowling of Zaheer Khan and Ruan Sidebottom on 0 not out.

Aliastar Cook and Paul Collingwood try to get England Innings on track by putting 57 runs for fourth wicket but S. Sreesanth bowled Paul Collingwood (28) to get the much needed breakthrough for Indians (101/4).

Few overs later Saurav Ganguly was rewarded for his brilliant line and length when he got out lbw Aliastra Cook when he was on 43 (109/5). At this stage England required much needed partnership to get back on track. Mat Prior and Ian bell put 38 run for the sixth wicket before Anil Kumble got the wicket of Mat. Prior caught by Rahul Dravid in the first slip.

And finally, Zaheer took his third wicket of the day by clinching the wicket of the last expert batsman of the England line-up - Ian Bell when he was on 31.

Now it’s an great opportunity for Indian batsman given by the bowlers to do solid foundation in the middle and take huge lead in the first inning.

Indian Bowlers Strike early to bowled out England at 198 - India Vs England Second Test Nottingham Day II

On day 2 of second test match Indian Bowler started well and wrapped up the England tail very quickly and bowled them out for 198. At Lunch Indians were 40/0 with Dinesh Karthik nout out on 20 and Wasim Jaffer on 15.

India Vs England at Nottingham, Trent Bridge – Second Test Start from Today

Indian Cricket Team is going into this match after almost loosing the first one, but thanks to M.S Dhoni and Rain that saves India from loosing the first test match. As we saw in First test match that Indian batsman fails to deliver when it matters, so if Indian cricket team wants to perform well in ongoing series then their batsman must take the responsibility especially senior pro.

Indian team has announced their playing twelve for the Nottingham Test with Yuvraj Singh as twelfth man and its likely that Yuvraj may have to warm the bench once more. So Indians are going with same Playing XI which they were played at Lord’s.

Sourav Ganguly's stiff back was the only selection headache for the the Indian selectors ahead of the second Test match and it seems the former skipper has recovered well.

It has been raining at Nottingham from last two to three days and is likely that the second test match against India and England will be again rain interrupted match. If this happens then we may find this match ending in a draw.

With the weather reports predicting more rains over the next few days, things certainly seem gloomy - not just for the two teams but also for the cricket fans.

Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman had all flopped in the first Test at the Lord's, where India managed to save the match after rains ruled out the final session.

It’s very important for Indian Cricket team that their master blaster Batsman Sachin Tendulkar deliver in this match otherwise Indian team may find themselves in same situation where they left at Lord’s.

India need 244 more runs to Win first Test at Lords – India Vs England 1st test Match Day IV

At stumps on day 4 Indians were 137/3 and need 243 more runs to register win at Lord’s on other hand England needs another seven wickets to beat India. It’s very hard for Indians to beat England if they have to beat England then someone need to bat till End of fifth day of Play. India already lost their Captain Rahul Dravid who was little unlucky to be given out lbw on the bowling of debutant Chris Tremlett. Sachin Tendulkar dream has then shattered by Monty Panesar. It’s all up to likes of Ganguly, Laxman and M.S Dhoni to either save this match or win it from here.

On fourth day match was played under beautiful sun light with no rain interruption or bad lights stoppage. Resuming from overnight score of 77/2 England strated very cautiously with their Captain Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pieterson. They played Zaheer and Sreesanth watchfully but tehse two bowler don’t able to break this partnership so Rahul dravid decide to give R.P Singh a try and he was accurate with his line and length from the word go. He was finally rewarded for his accurate line and length when he bowled Michael Vaughan when he was on 30 and England score was on 102. R.P. Singh got another wicket when he bowl well directed bouncer to Paul Collingwood in his very next over and reduce England to 114/3.

Ian Bell arrive to the crease and manage to negotiate some good delivery from Zaheer and R.P Singh but he was also bowled by R.P Singh when he was on 9 and England reduce to 132/5. At this stage Indian looking to take firm grip into this match but Indians have forgotten that the man of the day is still out there in the middle Kevin Pietersen. After lunch Kevin Pietersen played like a champion and hit all Indian bowlers to all corner of the ground and raise England runs in quick succession to 250 with the lead of over 340.

With all the bowlers are taking beating from Kevin Pietersen, Rahul Dravid finally gave the bowls to Indian most experience fast bowler Zaheer Khan and he didn’t disappoint his captain. He brake the most dangerous partnership (119) of the inning by dismissing Matt Prior caught by M.S. Dhoni and on very next ball he bowled Chris Tremlett to bring India right back into this match.

With England tail exposed Indian bowler rapped up the England proceeding very quickly but England had already taken stiff lead of 379.

R.P Singh taken 59/5 and K. Pietersen was finally out on 134.

Chasing a target of 380 Indians started well with Dinesh karthik and Wasim Jaffer both batting positively. At the score of 38 India looses their first wicket when Jaffer got out on the bowling of Anderson. Rahul Dravid hit first ball he faces to boundary but few ball laters when he was on 9 got out lbw on the bowling of Chris Tremlett.

Sachin Tendulkar arrival was cheered by Lord’s crowd but he also didn’t last too longer and got out lbw on the bowling of Panesaer leaving India on 84/3. But thanks to Dinesh karthik (56 not out) and Saurav Ganguly (36 not out) who manage to keep score board moving and without any further damage at stumps move India scores to 137/3.

So far England Looks favorite with 174 run lead – India Vs England 1st test Match Day III

On day 3 most of the time was wasted due to rain. When play called off England were 77-2 with Kevin Peterson (15 not out) and skipper Michael Vaughan (17 not out). Having taken the lead of 97 in first inning England looks very much top at this stage with overall lead of 174 run. With the ball is moving and seaming around and how the England bowlers performed in first inning it looks India are down and out in the first test match at Lord’s. It’s only miracle can save India from loosing the test match.

When play begins on third day Indian middle order batsman (Saurav Ganguly, M.S. Dhoni and V.V.S Laxman) and tail give their wickets without putting the effort and fight with England bowlers.

James Anderson and Ryne Sidebottom bowl brilliantly and picked wickets at regular interval. They didn’t allow Indian batsman to settle down. Anderson came up with his best figures in this inning with 5/42 and Sidebottom taken 4 wickets.

The first to go earlier was Saurav Ganguly who just added 9 runs to his overnight score when he was bowled by James Anderson on 34.

RP Singh (17) tried to hit his way out of the trouble and even succeeded briefly smashing two fours in one over off debutant Chris Tremlett but failed to do so against Sidebottom with Anderson taking an easy catch at mid-off.

M.S. Dhoni was out without scoring a single run. With all the major batsman back in the pavilion and Indian tails are exposed it was very difficult task for V.V.S Laxman to get India anywhere near close to England first inning total of 298. Although Anil Kumble and V.V.S Laxman tried to get moving but Anil Kumble was lbw to Sidebottom before the left-handed pacer had Laxman caught behind by wicketkeeper Matthew Prior for 15.

Now it’s all upto last pair of Indian batting line up Zaheer Khan and S.Sreesanth but what they will do if all the top guns were failed. And Finally Zaheer Khan was caught by A. Strauss on the bowling of James Anderson and India bowled out for 201.

With 97 runs of lead England opener once again started well. A.Cook and A. Strauss bothy put 40 runs for the first wicket before Zaheer Khan got Andrew Strauss caught by Sachin Tendulkar at first slip when he was on 18. Zaheer strikes again in his very next over when he trapped Aliastar Cook infront of the wicket and gave India a second breakthrough. At this time England were 43/2. When Rain interrupted the play they were 54/2.

When match started again both Peterson and Vaughan batted cautiously and without loosing any further wicket move England scores up to 77/2 at the End of third days play.

Indian Bowlers Shines but Batsman Fail – India Vs England 1st test Match Day II

Second days play between India and England finally begins after three hours of delay due to thunderstorm on the Thursday night.

On Day 2, From the word go Indian bowler shows some aggression and maturity in line and length and they had just taken 10.5 overs more to dismiss England on 298 all out.

However, the good show by the bowlers failed to inspire the Indian batsmen and they failed to push England on the back foot. At the close of the day's play India were 145/4, trailing the hosts by 153 runs.

It was golden opportunity for the Indian batsman to play with maturity and take the lead in the first inning but they fail by some tight bowling by England bowlers. At stumps they were 145/4 (Sachin, Rahul, Jaffer and Karthik back in the hut). Now it’s upto Laxman, Ganguly and Dhoni to guide Indian and get them back on track.

After dismissing England Indian opener Dinesh Karthik and Wasim Jaffer started the Indian proceeding but they fail to give Indians a much needed solid start. In the 9th over of Indian inning Dinesh karthik was trapped infront of the wicket by Sidebootom. Indian captain Rahul Dravid also didn’t last longer and he was out for 2 after facing 12 deliveries on the bowling of James Anderson caught by Wicket Keeper Mathew Prior.

Sachin Tendulkar arrival to the crease has been applauded by Lord’s Crowd and he responded well when he and W. Jaffer Put 79 runs for the third wicket, India seems to getting back into the match. In the process Wasim Jaffer completed his half century.

However, just when it seems that Indians were out of danger James Anderson trapped master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar infront of wicket when he was on 37 and shattered the hopes of Indians as well as Sachin Tendulkar who was dreaming of making Century at Lord’s.

After Dismissal of Sachin tendulkar Bengal Tiger Saurav ganguly arrive to the crease and added 28 runs for the fourth wicket before the dismissal of Wasim Jaffer who made 58 runs. Jaffer was the first Test victim of debutant Chris Tremlett who get out Wasim Jaffer caught and bowled.

Earlier when play started after three hour delay, India strike in the Third over of the days play, Ryan Sidebottom bowled by R.P Singh with superb in swinger and India get the night watchman back in the pavilion. Zaheer khan able to bag two crucial wickets of Kevin Peterson and Ian bell with S. Sreesanth managing to remove the England Tails.

Kevin Peterson was given out twice in the match. At first Instance he was given out caught behind by M.S Dhoni on the bowling of Zaheer Khan but replay suggest the ball just bounce before reaching Dhoni gloves so he was called back to bat again. But he did’t able to grab this opportunity and got out in the same fashion as earlier but this time he was clearly out.

With Saurav ganguly at the crease and Laxman & M.S. Dhoni still to bat can India able to take the lead in the first inning, it all depends on how India play in the first session of third day play of the first teat match.

At last Indian bowlers shows some aggression – India Vs England 1st test Match Day I

At Lord’s England Captain Michael Vaughan won the toss and decided to Bat first on beautiful Lord’s ground. His batsman proves his decision very much in his favor when England at one stage 218/1 but towards the end of the first day play which was suspended 9.3 overs earlier due to bad light Indian bowler did a fantastic job to pick quick 3 wickets especially Anil Kumble who has taken 2 wickets and reduce England to 268/4. At stumps Kevin Peterson was not out on 34 and with him night watchman Ryan Sidebottom was not out on zero.

Earlier England openers Alistair Cook and Strauss batted aggressively and England raises to 50 without loss in just 8.3 over of the inning. The new ball bowler of Indian cricket team didn’t maintain their line and length especially S. Sreesanth who bowls too much on middle and leg stump. Staruss has some luck in his favor and he is dropped when he was on 43 by Dinesh Karthik on the bowling of S. Sreesanth.

By seeing England openers on fire Indian captain Rahul Dravid given the ball to “Dada” Mr. Saurav Ganguly and he done his task in the very 1st over of his spell by picking A. Cook LBW when he was on 36. So finally India got the much needed breakthrough required.

M. Vaughan the England Test team captain arrive to the crease and he and Strauss played each and every Indian bowlers to the merits and carry the England score without any further damage till Lunch.

After Lunch though English batsman slow down little bit but the dangerous Partnership was building and Rahul Dravid has no idea at this moment how to get these player out. Strauss continued his good form with the bat bringing up his 10th Test half-century and soon his skipper, too, crossed the 50-run mark, his 15th Test half-century before the tea break. Finally Anil Kumble give the breakthrough for Indians when he caught A. Strauss at first slip by Rahul Dravid when he was just 4 run short from Century. A. Staruss and M. Vaughan put 142 run partnership for the second wicket.

Due to bad light, play stopped two times and that is why England captain looses his concentration and lose his wicket in 77th over of the England inning on the bowling of left arm pacer R.P. Singh caught by M.S. Dhoni. In the very next over Anil Kumble strike again to bring back India right into the match.

Finally when played called off England were 268/4.

India can Gain Second Spot in LG ICC Test ranking If

Indian Cricket team can move from Current Position i.e. fifth to second spot in LG ICC Test ranking if they beat England by 3-0 in the series starting from today (19th July 2007).

At presently India has 102 points and they can gain 9 points and reach from 102 to 111 points if they clean swap England in the three match Test Series. If they do this then England would drop from 115 points to 108 points.

If India beat England by 2-0 then they will gain third spot in LG ICC Test cricket ranking just behind England.

In other case if India will not go according to above i.e. if they loose the series by 3-0 or 2-0 then India have to move at seventh place just above West Indies and Bangladesh.

If India wants to repeat the history after 21 years then they have to play really well. According to Kapil Dev India must go with 6 batsman & 5 bowler combination against England at Lords. He said if India can not perform with six batsman then it’s hopeless to play with seven batsman.

With India having only one top-20 bowler currently in the squad (Kumble), this series will be an opportunity for several members of its attack to make a breakthrough into that elite group with the most likely candidate being Zaheer Khan, who is currently in 25th spot.

As far as the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen is concerned, Alistair Cook (20th) and Paul Collingwood (14th) of England will want to move further up within the top 20 while it will also be a chance for third-placed Kevin Pietersen to keep the pressure up on Ricky Ponting of Australia in first position and Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf in second.

Dravid in eighth position and Sachin Tendulkar in 16th will be anxious to move further up the table.

Since this is the last England tour for trio Sachin, Saurav and Rahul so they really need to perform well and must beat England to give Indian cricket team the believes they require on the foreign soil.

Sachin Tendulkar has’t made century at Lord’s so he is also keen to make the most use of it make a ton at Lord’s.

Indian batting trio need to perform together to give inexperienced bowling attack full support and chance attack English batsman to take 20 wickets.
