England Squad: Ian Bell, Matt Prior (WK), Kevin Pietersen (Captain), Ravi Bopara, Owais Shah, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Samit Patel, Stuart Broad, Steve Harmison, James Anderson.

Earlier Post

Both teams will be eager to take a lead in the beginning of the series. With both sides has already played lots of cricket recently so there will be no problem of match practice. India who recently beaten World Champion Australia by 2-0 in four match test series is flying high on confidence.

It will be battle between two new era captain K.Pietersen and M.S.Dhoni. With new Powerplay rule the first ODI between India and England will be more interesting. According to new rule the batting team will decide when to introduce either the second or the third Powerplay during their innings. This rule has been already applied on ODI matches played after 1st of October.

The last time these two sides met, England had the better of the Indians at home, but both sides have gone through a sea change in their arsenal. Both sides wear a fresh look, with hard-hitting batsmen making up the top six and fast bowlers and spinners of equal ability if not pedigree.

India who brought few new faces in last two ODI series will still rely on them to deliver it again for their country. Interestingly India will be playing their first One Day series after gap of One Year at their home.

Watch out for

Z.Khan: After getting back into the team able to swing the ball both ways as we have seen in Sri Lanka series as well as against Australia. After superb series against Australia he is very confident of tackling England top order.

A.Flintoff: One of the most dangerous player in England Side and he is eager to go against Indian bowling line-up. He not only a match winning player but can also contribute both with bat and bowl. With one hundred already in the bag last week on this tour, he will look to continue his good form in 1st ODI at Rajkot.

Pitch and conditions

The pitch and condition at Rajkot is likely to favor batsman except some early movement for the fast bowlers. The pitch is soft and unlikely to break-up. Rajkot wickets will be full of runs if batsman able to survive the first hours of play. The team winning the toss is most probably like to have a bowl on this wicket.

Stats & Trivia

Last time when these two teams mate England able to win the seven match ODI series by 4-3 in England. However England has lost the last series played in India by 1-5.

Highest total at Rajkot is 349-9 which was made in 1999 by New Zealand.
