Australia ready to face Twenty20 World Champions – India Vs Australia Twenty20 in M.C.G

Despite losing the test series by 1-2 in Australia, India the twenty20 world champions start as favorite to win the one of twenty20 to be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (M.C.G) on 1st of February 2008.

However twenty20 hero Yuvraj Singh likely to miss the twenty20 international at M.C.G due to knee injury and is also likely to sit out from first ODI of CB series against Australia.

Statistics also favoring Indians for this match, they have played nine t20 matches so far and lost only one match against New Zealand and one match is drawn against Scotland due to rain which was during inaugural t20 international in South Africa. Indians have faced two times against Australia in this format of the game and both times India came out as winner. On the other hand Australia has played 13 matches and only manages to win 6 of their matches so far.

First time both team faced each other in twenty20 World Cup semifinals in South Africa where Indians have beaten Australia by 15 runs, secondly they have played to each other in one of twenty20 in Mumbai where Indians able to beat Australia by 7 wickets.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be looking forward to continue the spirit and fight which is shown by their seniors in the currently ended test series and now it’s time for the youngster to turn the table on.

Indians have Robin Uthappa who is another dashing and hard hitting batsman to watch out for, the good times have rolled on, as he's played a couple of exciting and critical knocks in different positions in the batting order in the 50-over format.

Com back man Suresh Raina is another player to watch out for due to his superb form throughout the domestic season. Gautam Gambhir and V. Sehwag likely to open the innings for the Indians both are in great form and like to continue their team winning habits against the mighty Australians in this shortest format of the game.

Indian may opt to go with four fast bowlers (Praveen Kumar, Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma and Irfan Pathan) and one spinner Harbhajan Singh.

However, it would be wise if the team’s think-tank decides for four specialist bowler and go out with seven batters. Beause Sehwag can bowl a bit.

On the other hand Australians are really looking to take their revenge of previous two outing against Indians in twenty20 by beating them at M.C.G.

Indian tail wag as Team piles up 526 runs on Day2 at Adelaide Oval – India Vs Australia 4th Test

It was a day where bowler struggle to leave impact on the game at the Adelaide Oval with only five wickets falling throughout the three sessions of play. After Indian tail wag especially Anil Kumble (87 runs) and Harbhajan Singh (63 runs) to help India to pile up 526 runs, Australian opener came out with full determination to help their team to reach 62/0 at Stumps on day2.

Earlier India started from their overnight score of 309/5, but once again M.S. Dhoni failed to grab the opportunity of run making at flat and dry surface and got out in trying to smashed a wide ball of Mitchell Johnson and gave simple catch to A. Symonds at deep point. Sachin Tendulkar (153 runs) also got out after completing his 150’s run mark. Indian was struggling at that moment at 359/7.

However Indian captain Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh added 107 runs for the eighth wicket to help their team to get the pass 450 runs. Harbhajan, more aggressive of the two, smacked seven boundaries in his 103-ball knock while Kumble, playing a captain's innings, held the fort from the other end. Harbhajan was finally dismissed by Andrew Symonds as the off-spinner played a shot too many to fall with India 34 runs short of 500.

But Kumble was in no mood to give it up easily as the Indian captain was at his fighting best. The leg-spinner took the fight to the Aussies with Ishant Sharma (14 not out) to add 58 runs for the last wicket, pushing the visitors well past 500. Kumble, who displayed great cricket acumen and fortitude to balk the Australian bowlers, fell soon after tea.

India are 1-2 down in the four match test series, and now their bowler needs to perform to get Australian wickets to level the series at Adelaide oval.

Match Summary

India 1st Inning (526/10)

S. Tendulkar – 153 A. Kumble - 87

Australia 2nd Inning (62/0)

Tendulkar 39th century help India to pile up 309/5 at Stumps on Day1 – India Vs Australia 4th Test at Adelaide Oval

Sachin Tendulkar who is almost playing his last Test match at Adelaide Oval smashed an unbeaten knock of 124 runs to help India to pile op 309 runs on the board for the lost of five wickets at Stumps on Day1. The other not out batsman is M.S. Dhoni who is batting on 6 runs of 54 balls.

The 'Little Master', who blazed away to his 39th Test century, played the lone hand in the Indian innings as none of the other batsmen could make their starts count. The notable thing about Tendulkar's 39th Test hundred was how he looked to be in a zone of his own. Not one other batsman looked half as much in command as him, which was a bit surprising on what is considered, at least as of now, to be a batting strip.

Earlier Indian captain Anil Kumble won the toss and decided to bat first on batting friendly wicket. India began at a brisk pace with Pathan donning the opener's role in the absence of Wasim Jaffer, who was replaced by off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. Pathan looked good in his brief stint until the southpaw played one away from the body and Gilchrist gloved the simple catch.

After Pathan Dismissal Rahul Dravid (18 runs) arrives to the crease and look solid in the partnership of 48 runs for the 2nd wicket with Virendra Sehwag (63 runs) before giving simple catch at first slip to Ricky Ponting on bowling of Mitchell Johnson. Indian went on to lunch with no more hiccups.

Lee and Hogg struck for Australia in the post-lunch session claiming Virender Sehwag (63) and Sourav Ganguly (seven). Both batsmen were unlucky to be dismissed. Sehwag departed soon after lunch edging a Lee delivery to the slips but replays showed the Aussie spearhead overstepping by a long margin.

However inform batsman V.V.S Laxman (51 runs) and Sachin Tendulkar (124* runs) put on 129 runs for the fourth wicket to put India back on track. Laxman was got out just 10 overs before close of play on the bowling of Brett Lee.

Final Playing XI for both Teams:

India: Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni (WK),Irfan Pathan, Anil Kumble (C), Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma.

Australia: Matthew Hayden, Phil Jaques, Ricky Ponting (C), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist (WK),Brett Lee, Brad Hogg, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark.

Match Summary

India 1st Inning (309/5)

S. Tendulkar – 124* V. Sehwag - 63

Brett Lee– 2/62 Mitchell Johnson – 2/72

Indian team beat Australia by 72 runs on their home soil to destroy their dream of creating world record of 17 straight win in test cricket. The home side, chasing 413 were bowled out for 340. This incidentally, is the first-ever win for any team from the sub-continent at Perth.

Twice now, India have denied Australia the record of 17 straight wins, following up on that sensational victory in Kolkata in 2001.

India scripted this fairytale comeback 'Down Under' with some sensational bowling by their pace trio of Irfan Pathan, R.P. Singh and Ishant Sharma, which was supported well by the batsmen, all the way down the order.

Michael Clarke top scored with an elegant 81 before Anil Kumble foxed him to take India on the brink of a super win. But the Indians had to wait to attain the victory as the Aussie tail launched a counter-attack.

Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark came out with all guns blazing to share a belligerent 73-run stand. The duo gave the fielding side a scare with some lusty hits. The partnership was finally broken by Man of the Match Irfan Pathan when the left-arm seamer dismissed Clark for 32.

RP Singh dealt the final blow, cleaning up number eleven Shaun Tait for four to take India to their first ever Test win at Perth and the fifth in Australia.

Irfan Pathan was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant all round performance both with bat and ball in the match at Perth.

Earlier Indian captain Anil Kumble won the toss and decided to bat first on bouncy wicket of Waca ground in Perth. The decision to bat first was well supported by the openers Sehwag and Jaffer as they went on to put 57 runs in the first hour of play.

However some tight bowling after the first hour strangled the openers and soon a perfect delivery by Johnson took the edge off Sehwag’s bat on its way to Gilchrist to dismiss the opener for 29. Few overs later Jaffer also departed on 16 runs which is his highest score in current tour. He was picked by Brett Lee.

The Indian ship was then steadied by Rahul Dravid (93 runs) and Sachin Tendulkar (71 runs) as they both put on 118 runs for the third wicket to help India pass the score of 170’s. The duo successfully combated an all-pace attack on the WACA pitch to guide India to 177-2 at tea on day one in Perth.

Sachin Tendulkar in his 71 runs knock was more aggressive than his opposite partner and he manages to hit 9 boundaries. Rahul Dravid also manage to hit his first half century of the tour after coming to bat at his favorite number three position.

After tea, all Indian batsman’s have short stay at the crease as India lost four quick wickets in last session to lost the gain initiative at close of first day’s play. Sehwag and Karthik signs in Practice match against ACTXI – India tour of Australia

Virendra Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik the two players who were struggling to find their place in the playing XI signs in the three day tour match against ACTXI. Both came out to bat as opener in 2nd inning at Canberra and put on 158 runs for the first wicket.

This was the last chance before they can show some form before Indian think management pick final playing XI for Perth test. Virender Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik came up with sparkling knocks to guide the Indians to 281 for four declared against the Australian Capital Territorial Invitational XI.

In reply ACTXI were 60/3 before match was declared as drawn. In 2nd Inning of ACTXI Pankaj Singh also showed good form with ball by picking up two crucial wickets while Irfan Pathan picked one wickets.

Earlier ACTXI captain declared their inning on overnight score of 292/8. Indian came out with new opening pair in the face of Virendra Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik. Both were positive from the word go. On the other hand Dinesh Karthik played with caution and aggression before fell short of hundred on 97 runs with 12 lusty boundaries to his name. After dismissal of Karthik, Yuvraj Singh came out to bat but his horror run with the bat in Australia continued as the southpaw fell for only three runs. With both Karthik and Sehwag breathing down Yuvraj’s neck and a poor show in Canberra (five runs in the two innings), the Southpaw's chances to make the final cut for the third Test seem slim.

Wasim Jaffer who hit classy 97 runs in first inning manage just 21 runs in 2nd inning before given out caught behind, which was another bad decision by umpire. When India decalred there 2nd inning Rahul Dravid (16* runs) and Irfan Pathan (18* runs) were the two not out batsman at the creases at tea time.

Now India will play Australia in third test match at Wacca Ground, Perth from 16th of January (Wednesday). Match will start from 07:30 AM India time.

After a big controversy in history of cricket, finally ICC taken a practical step to clear Harbhajan Singh to play until the decision is made on the BCCI appeal against the ban. ICC also has taken a favorable step for the Indian by removing Steve Bucknor from remaining matches in the series.

In place of Bucknor, New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden and Rauf will thus be the umpires for the remaining two Test matches. The ICC also decided to bring in Sri Lankan Ranjan Madugalle as a facilitator to ensure that the match is played in the right spirit.

Meanwhile, the ICC has also confirmed that it has received official notification from the BCCI of its appeal against the finding that Harbhajan was guilty of making a racist remark to Symonds. The ICC will appoint a Code of Conduct Commissioner to hear the appeal.

After Sydney test Indian team opposed to travel to Canbera for the practice match to be played between ACTXI from 10th of January due to poor umpiring and three test match ban on Harbhajan Singh.

V.V.S Laxman played a majestic inning of 109 runs of 142 balls at Sydney to help India mount a spirited reply to Australian 463 runs on second day of 2nd test match at Sydney. At close of play Indians were 216/3 with Saurav Ganguly batting on 21 runs and Sachin Tendulkar on 9.

Laxman involves in an outstanding partnership of 175 runs for the second wicket with solid Rahul Dravid (53 runs of 160 balls) before Wasim Jaffer got out of an no ball bowled by Brett Lee for 3 runs.

In the partnership of 175 runs Australian wicketkeeper did give both of them a chance by dropping some simple catches behind the wicket. Before close of play both batsman departed in quick succession. First to go was Rahul Dravid who was caught at first slip by Hayden on bowling of Mitchell Johnson after just reaching his half century. In the very next over Brad Hogg gets rid of Laxman when he was on 109 runs.

Laxman, who had two centuries in both his previous outings at the SCG, carried on with the tradition with a blazing knock, his 12 Test hundred that included 18 signature boundaries, while Dravid dropped anchor from the other end.

Rahul Dravid who was caught of a no ball early in his innings continues to ride his luck and was also dropped two times by Gilchrist. However after reaching his first fifty on this tour, laps of concentration he gave simple catch to first slip.

Earlier Austrlia started with their overnights score of 376/7 and manage to add another 87 runs before bowled out for 463 runs. Andrew Symonds remains unbeaten on 162 runs. Brett Lee (59 runs of 121 balls) also manages to chip in with yet another half-century for his team.

RP Singh, who demolished Australia's top order on the first day, finished with 4-124, while captain Anil Kumble also took 4-106. Harbhajan Singh took the remaining two scalps, giving away 108 runs.

Umpiring error continues to hurt India on 2nd day of play also, first when Symonds was stumped by Dhoni but Steve Bucknor didn’t called for 3rd umpire but replay shows his foot was in the air. Second Wasim Jaffer bowled out of a no-ball but Mark Benson not able to see the same.

Australia 376/7 at stumps on day1 – India Vs Australia 2nd Test Day-I at Sydney

Once again Australia showed to all cricketing nation why they are number one team in the world. Reeling at 134/6 at one stage, they bounce back with some superb batting and with poor umpiring to get back into the second test match at Sydney. At close of day1 they were 376/7 with lucky man Andrew Symonds batting on 137 and Brett Lee on 31.

R.P Singh and Harbhajan Singh bowled there heart out to gave the world champions Australian batting line up a rare collapse. At lunch they were 95/2, but R.P Singh and Harbhajan emerged unlikely heroes as India sparked a rare Australian collapse immediately after lunch.

RP sizzled with the wickets of Phil Jaques, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Adam Gilchrist, while Harbhajan Singh extracted vicious turn to remove Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke to have the world champions on the mat at 134-6.

However 173 runs partnership between Andrew Symonds (137* runs) and Bradd Hogg (78 runs) get their team right back into the match. Brett Lee rubbed it in along with Symonds with an unbeaten 69-run stand from a situation when they were on the verge of being shot out for under 200.

A luckless Indian team feels sorry at stumps, since too many decisions didn’t went there way. Poor umpiring decisions on Day one of the Sydney Test spoiled India’s first day efforts with as many as 4 legitimate decisions going against the visitors. Steve Bucknor and Marc Benson, the two field umpires were the main culprits as far as India was concerned but their misery was compounded when the third umpire Bruce Oxenford too joined his errant colleagues.

The dangerous Andrew Symonds was let off thrice by the umpires. The first time when he got away was when he was on 30, umpire Steve Bucknor turned down an appeal for caught behind by MS Dhoni off Ishant Sharma. The second time, Symonds was on 48 when Dhoni stumped him off Anil Kumble’s delivery. The third time, Symonds was on 106 when he was trapped leg before, the ball hitting middle and leg stump but Benson decided otherwise.

Earlier, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting edged one to MS Dhoni when on 17 off a Sourav Ganguly delivery. Mark Benson didn’t think so.

India: Rahul Dravid, Wasim Jaffer, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Saurav Ganguly, MS Dhoni (WK/VC), Anil Kumble (C), Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma.

Australia:, ML Hayden, Phil Jaques, Ricky Ponting (C), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist (WK), Brad Hogg, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Stuart Clark.

Match Summary (Day1 at Stumps)

Australia 1st Inning (376/7)

Andrew Symonds – 137* Brad Hogg – 78

R.P Singh – 4/108

Harbhajan Singh – 2/88
