It was a day where bowler struggle to leave impact on the game at the Adelaide Oval with only five wickets falling throughout the three sessions of play. After Indian tail wag especially Anil Kumble (87 runs) and Harbhajan Singh (63 runs) to help India to pile up 526 runs, Australian opener came out with full determination to help their team to reach 62/0 at Stumps on day2.
Earlier India started from their overnight score of 309/5, but once again M.S. Dhoni failed to grab the opportunity of run making at flat and dry surface and got out in trying to smashed a wide ball of Mitchell Johnson and gave simple catch to A. Symonds at deep point. Sachin Tendulkar (153 runs) also got out after completing his 150’s run mark. Indian was struggling at that moment at 359/7.
However Indian captain Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh added 107 runs for the eighth wicket to help their team to get the pass 450 runs. Harbhajan, more aggressive of the two, smacked seven boundaries in his 103-ball knock while Kumble, playing a captain's innings, held the fort from the other end. Harbhajan was finally dismissed by Andrew Symonds as the off-spinner played a shot too many to fall with India 34 runs short of 500.
But Kumble was in no mood to give it up easily as the Indian captain was at his fighting best. The leg-spinner took the fight to the Aussies with Ishant Sharma (14 not out) to add 58 runs for the last wicket, pushing the visitors well past 500. Kumble, who displayed great cricket acumen and fortitude to balk the Australian bowlers, fell soon after tea.
India are 1-2 down in the four match test series, and now their bowler needs to perform to get Australian wickets to level the series at Adelaide oval.
