Twenty20 World Cup – India look to continue their winning streak against Ireland at Trent Bridge

India v Ireland at Trent Bridge – Ireland is yet to taste defeat at T20I

Defending World twenty20 Champion India will come face-to-face with the team who has never lost twenty20 Internationals. India look to hand Ireland their first defeat in International twenty20.

Both teams already qualified for the next stage so the outcome of this game will not affect much. However India team will not take Ireland lightly as they don’t want to loose their rhythm before going into tough Group E (England, South Africa and West Indies) in the next stage.

In twenty20 India have considerably better success rate while setting the target and M.S.Dhoni would love to bat first on a run fest Trent Bridge wicket. India will miss firepower of Virendra Sehwag at top but with Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma they will try to fill that gap.

In the last game India scoring patters was simple as they scored most of their runs during the start and end of the innings, with the first six overs yielding more than 46 runs and the final five nearly 49. Ireland has to bowl really well during these overs if they would like to chase scores below 150 run mark.

India go into the tougher Super Eights group and will look at this game as a chance to iron out any flaws they feel exist. Their bowling certainly needs to be accurate at start and in the end overs.

Watch out For

O’Brien Brothers: Both players performed exceptionally well with bat in the game against Bangladesh in the run chase. Both brothers are highly talented can perform exceptionally well against any bowling attack. It will big test for India bowlers to tackle these two.

Yuvraj Singh: A dashing left-hander struck 41 runs of just 18 balls against Bangladesh when team desperately in need of such type of inning. When he is on song he can very destructive batsman and very hard to stop from scoring sixes.

Pitch & Conditions

Trent-Bridge wickets are always known for producing high scoring game with some help for the spinners. The weather will be cloudy but rain will not affect the game.

Team News

With Virendra Sehwag out of the equation Rohit Sharma will continue as openers with Gambhir. Zaheer Khan is likely to miss the game since he is not 100% fit yet so R.P.Singh is likely to take his place. On the other hand Ireland will go with same XI as used during Bangladesh game.

Likely Playing XII for both teams (Match is schedule to begin at 22:00 PM India Time on 10th Of June)

India Squad: Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (Captain & Wicketkeeper), Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, P.Ojha.

Stats & Trivia

Ireland is yet to loss a twenty20 International. They have played five and came out as winner on four occasions while one is abandoned due to rain.

India, on the other hand, have won eight and lost four out of their 14 games.

West Indies v Sri Lanka – Warm-up opportunity for both the teams before big stage

With both the teams already qualified for Super Eights, they will play this game to fine-tune their weakest areas. Both teams played brilliantly to beat Australia and dump out Aussies from the ICC World twenty20 tournament.

The star of West Indies Australia game Chris Gayle is injured and he is likely to miss the game as he doesn’t want to take chance before the next round. The game between Sri Lanka and West Indies will be 100th International twenty20.

West Indies bowling as well as batting looks awesome in the game against Australia but they still need to improve their fielding if they would like to reach semifinals of world twenty20.

Sri Lanka on the other hand looks professional in the field and would love to continue their winning momentum. They have world class spinners (Mendis and Murali) as well as superb fast bowler like Lasith Malinga.
