Twenty20 World Cup – Netherlands beat England by 4 Wickets in opening T20 game

An opening game of World Twenty20 produced an unexpected result when NetherlandsEngland. Netherlands reach home with four wickets still in the bag. The star for Netherlands in run chase was T de Grooth who smashed 49 runs of just 30 balls with six crisp boundaries and one huge six. achieved the target of 163 runs set by

Needing 7 runs to win from last over, Netherlands batsman R ten Doeschate (22 runs of 17 balls) and E Schiferli (5 runs of 7 balls) played calmly to achieve the target with ease. Now EnglandPakistan in their next game on 7th June to make it to the next stage of twenty20 world cup. faces an uphill task of making it to Supers Eight. They have to beat

Chasing the target of 163 to win, Netherlands got off to disastrous start loosing both their openers inside four overs with 23 runs on the board. But brilliance of T de Grooth kept Netherlands in the hunt with the super inning and it came at the right time for Dutch otherwise it could have been different story.

Netherlands' bowling was the first indication that they were up for this match, restricting England to just 73 in their last ten overs. It was simply not enough for England, and Netherlands' batsmen went hell for leather with the bat.

Ryan ten Doeschate played with great calmness and tenacity, but Tom de Grooth really impressed, playing with such audacity that England were left looking a little clueless. And England simply crumbled under pressure; their fielding, in particular, was not up to scratch and they missed at least four run-out chances.

Earlier Netherlands captain Jeroen Smits won the toss and put England into bat. England got off to flying start with their openers Ravi Bopara (46 runs of 34 balls) and Luke Wright (71 runs of 49 balls) put on 102 runs partnership in just 68 deliveries. But rest of the England batsman’s failed to utilize the final overs as they manage just 60 runs in last 52 balls and that is where I think England loss the game.

After such a rollicking start given by their openers they failed to score runs in the depth overs.

Tom de Grooth was named Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant display with bat that guided Netherlands to an unforgettable win against home side.
