Kolkata Knight Riders wins a thriller against Bangalore Royal Challengers – IPL twenty20

Bangalore Royal Challengers nightmare continued as they lost their sixth match in IPL tournament so far. Kolkata Knight Riders able to pull a sensational win of 5 runs against Bangalore Royal Challengers to break their loosing trot. Defending a total of 129 from 16 over their bowler did a fantastic job to restrict the challengers for 124/4 in the allotted 16 over match.

After winning the toss Saurav Ganguly opted to bat first after rains reduced the rematch of the curtain raiser to 16 overs-a-side, the hosts just managed 129-7 against Bangalore. It could have been worse, had Wriddhiman Saha (17 not out) and Murali Kartik (17) not rescued them from a precarious 88-6.

For Bangalore Royal Challengers Dale Styen was the bowler of the day as he picked up three crucial wickets in his allotted four overs. New opening pair of Kolkata Knight Riders Brad Hodge and Akash Chopra didn’t give their team start they were looking for and both were back in the pavilion with 20 runs on the board in the 4th over. S.Ganguly (20 runs of 22 balls) and D.Hussey (26 runs of 12 balls) tried to steady their ship but both were brilliantly run out in quick succession to give big set back for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Thereafter all of the middle order batsmen reached double figures but threw it away.

Chasing a total which looked comparative but not huge for Bangalore Royal Challengers they struggled in start with some tight bowling from Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers. The early loss of Shivnarine Chanderpaul prompted Karnataka’s veteran batsman J Arunkumar (22) to launch an assault on Umar Gul in the fifth over of play, before Brad Hodge sensationally stopped a skimmer at point and threw the stumps down. But it was Saurav Ganguly magical spell that turned the tide in the favour of home team as he bowled 3 overs and conceded just 7 runs and picked up the wicket of Rahul Dravid.

S.Ganguly was declared Man of the Match.
