Kings XI Punjab wins thriller in Super Over against Chennai Super Kings

What a super game, the first super game of IPL season3 which lasted till midnight in Chennai to give the outcome of the game. Kings XI Punjab holds there nerve to beat Chennai Super Kings in the Super over. Needing 10 runs to win the super over, Kings XI Punjab batsman M.Jayawardne smashed first ball for six and then gout out on second ball leaving Yuvraj Singh to score another four required runs to register their first win in IPL season3.

Yuvraj Singh reverse swept fourth ball of Muralitharan Super over to give first two points on the board for Kings XI Punjab. For Kings XI Punjab this was the first victory against Chennai Super Kings in the six games they have played so far in all edition of IPL.

Earlier Kings XI Punjab once again failed to put enough runs on the board and in the end manage just 136/8 in their 20 overs despite Yuvraj Singh (43 runs of 28 balls) and Irfan Pathan (39 runs of 32 balls) helping Punjab to score 87 runs in the last 10 overs of their inning, so you can imagine how poor the Kings XI Punjab top order batted. Specially Ravi Bopara (1 runs of 8 balls), Kumar Sangakara (15 runs of 16 balls) and M.Jayawardne (3 runs of 5 balls).

Chennai Super Kings were cruising along with 65/0 in the 9th over when first breakthrough comes in when R.Powar dismissed dangerous looking M.Hayden (33 runs of 24 balls), but Captain S.Raina (15 runs of 11 balls) and P.Patel (57 runs of 58 balls) put on a valuable partnership of 31 runs of 23 balls to keep Kings XI Punjab hope at bay.

However as soon as S.Raina dismissed things started to change for King XI Punjab as they manage to pick wickets at regular intervals to keep Chennai Super Kings in check. From 33 required of 36 balls, game got so close that Chennai Super Kings requiring 10 runs of last balls bowled by Irfan Pathan.

Irfan Pathan despite of hit for four on the very first ball of the over kept his cool and bowled superb over to restrict the opposition on 136/7 to give IPL Season3 first tie of the tournament.

J.Theron was declared Player of the Match for his super spell of bowling during super overs as well as in the game.
