IPL 2010 – Kolkata Knight Riders win opening game against Deccan Chargers

The opening game of IPL provided full entertainment to the crowd, the game swung from one way to others but lastly the team who fought hard for a win emerge out as winner. Kolkata Knight Riders who was looking down and out of the game during first half of the play during both innings claw back to derail Deccan Chargers by 11 Runs. The win not only give them confidence in future matches but also give them believes that they can beat best of the best on their day.

Chasing the target of 162 runs for victory, Deccan Chargers have only themselves to blame for the loss as most of their batsman tried to play some unnecessary shots which was not required after they were well placed at 99/1 at the end of 11th over. A.Gilchrist (54 runs of 35 balls) and H.Gibbs (19 runs of 24 balls) were going well but in the 12th over A.Gilchrist tried to send the ball out of the park but end up giving a simple catch to deep square leg after that the collapse started with likes of H.Gibbs, A.Symonds (5 runs of 9 balls) and Rohit Sharma (13 runs of 12 balls) departed soon to leave their team to chase down 34 runs in 22 balls.

Thirty-four off 22 balls with only Indian domestic batsmen and the tail to follow was always going to be a tight finish, and Mathews, Laxmi Shukla, Langeveldt and Ishant completed the choke for Deccan with a good mix of yorkers, bouncers and slower ones.

Earlier after put into bat KKR got off to disastrous start as they lost two wickets in the very first over of the game to reduced to 0/2, three overs later two more quick wickets jolted the Knight Riders inning before brave A.Mathews (65 runs of 46 balls) and O.Shah (58 runs of 46 balls) bring back the Kolkata Knight Riders inning back on track with an unbeaten partnership of 130 runs of just 89 balls.

Both batsmen scored 104 runs in the last 10 overs and have give Kolkata Knight riders a real chance of fighting back in this game.

Angelo Mathews was declared Player of the Match for his superb inning of 65 runs of just 46 balls in which he hit five fours and four sixes.
