India v Sri Lanka twenty20 world cup 2010 – Last and final chance for both teams

twenty20 world cup 2010India have one more chance to save their pride and help them mathematically to qualify for the semi finals of ICC World twenty20. India doesn’t need any miracle against Sri Lanka they just need a win by the margin of 20 runs or they have to chase down the score in 17.3 overs or less.

By considering the Australian forms at the moment it’s very hard to believe that West Indies will be favorite to win against them, but in twenty20 anything can be happened. But India at least needs to give themselves chance by beating Sri Lanka by 20 or more runs or chase it in lest than 17.4 overs.

Both teams coming out of a loss by some outstanding short pitch bowling display against them. But now they didn’t have to worry too much because they will play on low and spinning track at ST. Lucia much like Asian pitches were balls take some turn.

India must capitalize on the chance given by Sri Lanka to them after loosing their game against Australia by huge 81 runs margin. They have fire power to do that no doubt about it but they failed to click as unit in all three departments of the game.

On the other hand Sri Lanka bowling looks more versatile than Indians. The only worry of concern for them is their batting which failed miserably apart from in-form M.Jayawardne.

India will have slight edge over Sri Lanka going into this game, since they have already played two games here with two wins in both the games. M.S. Dhoni and his men knows exactly what the condition is and where to place the fielders in outfield by considering bigger ground at Beausejour Cricket Ground, ST Lucia.

Both teams couldn’t asked for a better game than this to proceed to the next round, they are playing against each other continuously since last 18 months or so and they knows most of the players weakness and strength.

Watch out for

G.Gambhir: So far he has not played well enough as per his potential or we can say the opposition team has not given him enough chance to spend time at the wicket by testing him with short pitch stuff. However against Sri Lanka you can expect him to fire as he has very good record against the islander.

S.Jayasury: Out of 100 times he has played against India, he has come good against them on most of the occasions. So expect him to play another big role in the crunch game against India. India is his favorite team; it will be no surprised if he shines with bat or ball.

Pitch & Condition

At Beausejour Cricket Ground, ST Lucia, the wicket is not as quick as we have seen in last few games at Barbados. The outfield is also not lighting fats and grounds are too big for the batsman to clear it for sixes. Spinner will have key role to play at this venue and both side got genuine spinner in their rank. By considering afternoon start, team winning the toss would love to bat first and put runs on the board. Any score between 160-165 will be good enough to register a win but, if India bat first they will eye more than 175 to give them self chance to beat Sri Lanka by 20 or more runs.

On the other hand if they ball first they would look to restrict Sri Lanka below 140 to give themselves a realistic chance of chasing down the score in less than 17.4 overs.

Teams

After disastrous performance in the last game by Ravider Jadeja it’s very unlikely that he will get a game in such a crunch scenario. M.Vijay may get another chance to prove his mettle.

Sri Lanka on the other hand, will look to bring N.Kulasekara in the playing XI, considering his performance against India in past matches in place of C.Welegedera.

Likely Playing XI for both Teams (Match is Schedule to begin at 22:15 PM India Time)

India Squad: G.Gambhir, M.Vijay, S.Raina, Yuvraj Singh, M.S.Dhoni (Captain & WK), Yusuf Pathan, H.Singh, Piyush Chawla, Z.Khan, A.Nehra.

Sri Lanka Squad: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara (Captain & WK), Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chamara Kapugedera, Suraj Randiv, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga, N.Kulasekara.
