England beat New Zealand by three wickets thanks to E.Morgan knock of 40 runs of 34 balls which helped England to chase down the target of 150 runs easily. This win not only helped England to carry the momentum in the semi final but also helped Pakistan to go through to the last four of ICC world twenty20.
Earlier Pakistan beat South Africa by 11 runs to throw them out of the competition for the second successive time in twenty20 world cup. Last time they have beaten them in 2009 T20 world cup and went on to win the title.
Chasing the target of 150 runs for victory, England got off to flying start by their openers M.Lumb (32 runs of 21 balls) and C. Kieswetter (15 runs of 12 balls). Both went on to put 24 runs in just 15 deliveries to set the tone for England chase. England were cruising nicely till the sixth over, but three quick wickets by New Zealand get them back into the game.
At 66/4 in the 9th over, it was looked like the game will once again take a twist but E.Morgan and L.Wright (24 runs of 17 balls) put on 52 valuable run partnership of just 38 balls to take the game away from New Zealand reach.
In the end England chased down the total with five balls to spare.
Earlier New Zealand captain D.Vettori won the toss and decided to bat first on slow ST Lucia wicket. His team started steadily and kept their wicket intact but when they tried to accelerate they have lost some crucial wickets and that’s why they have only managed 149/6 in their 50 overs. R.Taylor (44 runs of 33 balls) and S.Styris (31 runs of 19 balls) was two valuable contributor in New Zealand score of 149 runs.
With this Win now, England will play Sri Lanka or West Indies or India in the 1st semi final of ICC World twenty20 2010 on 13th of May 2010 and Pakistan will take on Australia in the 2nd semi final on 14th of May at same ST. Lucia venue.
R.Bresen was declared Player of the Match for his all-round performance with bat and ball.
