India v South Africa Super Eights – South Africa looking forward for revenge

twenty20 World Cup 2009South Africa who already qualified for the Semi Final of ICC World twenty20 will play against India who is already out of competition and now play to salvage some pride. South Africa on the other hand will look for revenge since this is the team which knocked out South Africa from twenty20 World cup 2007.

South African coach already said that it was bad luck for their team that England thrashed out India out of competition as his team was looking for same to take the revenge. Today’s match has no impact on the tournament but still an international game is a game whether it has any impact or not.

India who lost their both previous Super Eights game to West Indies and England have lot to do if they want to compete against strong South African lineup. The three-run defeat against England did not just end India's title hopes, it also put the breaks on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's golden run as captain.

Now Dhoni is being squarely blamed for India's doomed campaign and questions are being raised at his penchant for taking gambles even in crunch situations. At it is right because he has made some blunders in their last outing against England. First he gave Yuvraj Singh to bowl ahead of Harbhajan and Jadeja and then sending Jadeja ahead of Yuvraj and Pathan. His batting is also not up to the mark. But the players like him will surely bounce back.

The Captain cool Dhoni publicly apologised to the nation for the team's performance. But he also knows a win against South Africa and against West Indies can only do the repair work for them as well for the team.

South Africa so far is unbeaten in the tournament and they will be eying their seventh consecutive wins on trot. Their inform batsman J.Kallis is likely to miss out but this will not affect their performance as much.

The batting line-up, which was considered India's biggest strength before the tournament, has let the team down on more than one occasion. Virendra Sehwag absence also does not help to India course and Rohit Sharma unable to cope up against good bowling attacks. Gautam Gambhir is also not at his best so India will once again rely heavily on Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan to do bulk of scoring for them.

In the bowling department also apart from Harbhajan and Zaheer no one performed upto the mark. They either conceded too many runs in beginning or in depth overs. In England game also they have given 16 extras and the margin of loss was just three. In such short format of the game you need discipline from your bowlers.

Let’s hope India will put good show against South Africa to stop their winning streak.

Watch out For

Yuvraj Singh: This man is in prime form and who have thought that the man sitting in dug-out for 10 overs will come out and smashed first ball six to a bowler who has just take a wicket on his previous deliveries. If he hasn’t got out in the last game then situation could have been different for his team.

AB Devilliers: Apart from Scotland game he has not got enough chance to show his class but in absence of Kallis he will come at number three and it will be interesting to watch how he approaches the game.

Pitch & Conditions

The pitch at Trent Bridge, Nottingham will be again full of runs. Team winning the toss would love to bat on this wicket. Any score between 175-185 runs will be good total on this wicket.

Team News

Jaques Kallis with some back problem is likely to sit out from the game and Morne Morkel will get a game in place of him. That means South Africa is ready to employ same tactics against strong Indian batting line up as adapted by England and West Indies (Testing Indian batsman with short pitch deliveries).

India is likely to change few of the players that played in last game against England. Praveen Kumar might get a chance in place of Ishant Sharma while Dinesh Karthik might get a chance in place of R.Jadeja.

Likely Playing XI for both teams (Match is schedule to begin at 22:00 PM India Time on 16th Of June)

India Squad: Yusuf Pathan, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (Captain & Wicketkeeper), Rohit Sharma, Ravinder Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, R.P.Singh, Praveen Kumar.

South Africa Squad: Graeme Smith (Captain), Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Mark Boucher (WK), Albie Morkel, RE van der Merwe, Morne Morkel, Johan Botha, Wayne Parnell, Dale Steyn.

Stats

India have never lost a game against South Africa in twenty20 internationals.

South Africa will eye a seventh straight win in twenty20 international.

twenty20 World Cup 2009Sri Lanka v New Zealand Super Eights – Do-or-die for Semi Final spot

Both teams know a win today will secure their berth in Semi Final of ICC World twenty20 and looser will pack their bags. So far Sri Lanka have played some outstanding cricket in the tournament and a second round exit will be unfair to them.

Sri Lanka entered the Super Eights after beating Australia and West Indies quite comprehensively and in their Super Eights game their bowlers done well to achieve the win for their team. However the margin of win against Pakistan and Ireland are so less that their net run rate is less than of Pakistan and New Zealand.

So they must win today’s to get into the Semi Final of twenty20. New Zealand have few worries as their few key players are injured but by considering the importance of the game Taylor and Vettori is likely to play in this game.

Likely Playing XI for both teams (Match is schedule to begin at 18:00 PM India Time on 16th Of June)

New Zealand Squad: Brendon McCullum, Aaron Redmond, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Scott Styris, Jacob Oram, Peter McGlashan (WK), Nathan McCullum, Daniel Vettori (Captain), Kyle Mills, Ian Butler.

Sri Lanka Squad: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara (Captain & WK), Mahela Jayawardene, Chamara Silva, Jehan Mubarak, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis.
